🎪 The September techno festivals in France

Four festivals share the month, and none of them look like the big summer formats: city parks or industrial wasteland, two or three days, tickets under 60 €. September has its upsides.

FAUNE #4, 4 to 6 September

FAUNE opens the month at Distillerie 168 in Pornic, where FA7 Crew run the rave playbook: an industrial site, a long weekend, seventeen artists and no headliner pulling focus. DJ sets and live shows trade off, with Raw Queen, Azef Selector, Lipstick and Beija Flor behind the decks, Diva't Dukes, Remblais Récent and Hustache playing live. The opposite of a bill built around one name.

Brunch Electronik Lyon, 12 and 13 September

The Lyon edition of Brunch Electronik lands at Grand Parc Miribel Jonage with the hardest line of its season: Nico Moreno, I Hate Models, SPFDJ, Vladimir Cauchemar and ROÜGE among eleven artists. Open air, from 39 €, twenty minutes out of central Lyon.

Le Jardin Électronique, 12 and 13 September

Same weekend, far north: Le Jardin Électronique takes over the Lomme city park on the edge of Lille with seventeen names led by Kölsch, Agoria, Mind Against, Joris Voorn and Andhim. The direction is a good deal more melodic than Lyon, though Marie Vaunt and Vieze Asbak sharpen the late slots. From 35 to 60 € depending on the pass. One for tour watchers: Vladimir Cauchemar plays both Lille and Lyon across the same weekend.

Utopia Festival Tome VI, 25 to 27 September

Utopia closes the month at Friche Belle de Mai, in the middle of Marseille, over three days and twelve artists. The booking leans local and invited rather than international: ROÜGE, KX CHR, Leo Pol, MATRAKK, Alycia Bezgo. From 30 to 55 €, in a venue that never needed a set design.

The rest of the month plays out in clubs and warehouses, and that is where the selection turns properly hard.

🎧 Club nights and raves: the rest of the month

RAW: Perc, Schacke, Obscure Shape, 5 September

RAW opens its season in a secret Paris warehouse with the heaviest bill it has ever put on one: Perc, Schacke, and Obscure Shape back to back with Alex Nantaya, 23:00 to 07:00. British industrial meets Copenhagen fast trance. The address drops a few days ahead, 18+.

Yoyaku x SlapFunk: 24 hours at FVTVR, 12 to 13 September

Twenty-four hours without a break, 23:00 Saturday to 23:00 Sunday, co-signed by labels yoyaku and SlapFunk at FVTVR. Sixteen names to cover the distance: Ellen Allien and Dr. Rubinstein take the hard hours, Margaret Dygas, Sonja Moonear and Dyed Soundorom stretch out the long ones. From 22.50 to 45 €. Plan your sleep.

3 years of GRÜV: Chlär, RUIZ OSC1, KUSS, 12 September

Same night, another secret Paris warehouse: GRÜV turns three, 23:00 to 07:00, with Chlär, RUIZ OSC1, KUSS live, Beau Didier, and KALTBLUME back to back with Siana. Three years, six names, no concession on tempo.

Macadam turns nine, 12 September

In Nantes, Macadam celebrates nine years with RONI, a live set from Nadia Struiwigh, Nawme (of Nantes collective Fast & Furieuse) and Aasana opening up. 22:00 to 07:00, and the best budget move of the month: free before 22:30 at the door, 19 or 20 € after that.

Skullcore: Deadly Guns, Anderex, 12 September

The Bordeaux collective brings hardcore back to Hangar DS with Deadly Guns, Anderex, So Juice and Remzcore: uptempo and frenchcore, 12.59 € on the door. It is the only genuinely hard date of the month in Bordeaux, and the cheapest in this selection.

Holy Priest at the Zénith in Nantes, 18 September

The Holy Shit Show moves into Zénith Nantes Métropole, 22:00 to 05:00, one stage and the oversized production announced for the tour. Vieze Asbak, Luca Agnelli, Kole and Gonzi fill out the bill. Encore staged this show at the Roman theatre of Vienne in July; the Nantes version tips it into an arena, a format French hard techno almost never gets outside festivals.

ENCORE x PHOTON: Ben Klock in Lyon, 19 September

Ben Klock, long-time Berghain resident, plays Fiducial Asteria with Alarico, Nastia and MXRY. Four names, one night, 29 €: the sharpest value of the month for a headliner of that weight.

Hard Queens #3, 25 September

Third edition at Le Titan in Couzon-au-Mont-d'Or, just north of Lyon, with an all-female lineup across two rooms: Kickheart, Lady Dammage, Nure, Plume, Sakyra, Tess K and Uphoria in the main, Astema, Glaskeen, Hellthy, Kalace, Kalnie and Snobinarde in the second. The night is built as a steady climb from techno into hard, 23:00 to 06:00, 20 €.
