Moog opened on 21 June 1996, days after one of the first editions of Sónar, in the old Villa Rosa : a flamenco tablao that was a landmark of the Barrio Xino. Thirty years later the club still runs on the same principle, and it is the one thing you have to understand about this place : it opens every single night of the year. Not Friday and Saturday. All 365. That changes what the programme looks like. Instead of two big bookings a week, Moog runs on residents who carry the room night after night : Carol Nyx, uroz, Javi gOn, Rubén Seoane, Carlota, Clara Rigby, Mister Majestyk, Monraker, Purpur, Rorschach. On a normal Tuesday there is one name on the flyer and the whole night belongs to that set. The booth has hosted Laurent Garnier, Miss Kittin and Richie Hawtin over the years, but the club is not built around the guest. Two floors, two different jobs. Downstairs, low ceiling, techno and house, that is the room people mean when they say Moog. Upstairs is VillaRosa, and the club is honest about it : pop, electropop, 70s to 90s rock and dance. If you came for techno, you stay down. The insider part is the ticketing. Moog sells on its own shop, not on a platform, and the tiers are time-locked : the cheapest Early Ticket only counts if you are inside before 1:00, and once you use it you cannot step out and come back until 2:00. Doors are at 23:59 every night, and a club that discounts the first hour by five euros is telling you plainly where its dead time sits.
